The colours of autumn aren’t confined to red and gold. Β The sky can take on an intense blue that is sometimes lost in the haze of summer, and the effect is stunning.
Colin’s photographs, taken in late October, show the jewel-like blues of the sky reflected in the River Braan, as dead leaves float downstream.

Yesterday I was thinking the sky looks so nice these days, has a pure blue shade. π

Yes, we have had wonderful blue skies too, in between the rain!

Like a stained-glass window, beautiful π
Jo Woolf
Yes, it is – you’re right! Exactly the same effect. I love these shades of blue!

Oh Jo, these are precisely the colours and textures I wish I could recreate in silk and wool tapestry – sometimes it half drives me mad thinking how to do it. Wonderfully rich and opulent aren’t they.

I can imagine how hard that must be! It would be the same in watercolour, I’m sure – Colin has his own favourite blues but it is always a challenge getting the luminosity. These blues are just like jewels, I love them!

Just wow! Nature is really wonderful. π

I know, nothing man-made can come close to those colours! Just amazing.

Extraordinary. To me they are like enamels, or almost the blue of the medieval stained glass windows at Chartres. Interesting how we all interpret these abstract images in terms of arts and crafts: there is a deep human need to try to reproduce the wonders of nature.

That is true – we want to capture it and take it home! It makes you realise why rivers and lakes were held sacred by ancient people – they reflect such an infinity of beauty.

I always loved the reflection of the sky on a water mirror. Splendid blues captured in these beautiful pictures, Jo.
Jo Woolf
Thank you, Carmen! I’m glad you enjoyed them.
