Colin has started a barn owl study, which he will be working on at the CLA Game Fair this coming weekend. Here it is in progress – remember that there’s no white paint here, and the background has to be painted around all the soft plumage.
If you’re going to be at the show, come along and watch!

Amazing – how is that even possible?! It reminds me of Michelangelo’s approach to stone carving, saying that he saw the angel in the marble and chipped away to set it free. There’s no room for error with this, is there? Such skill, I am awe-struck yet again.

I know – isn’t it incredible?! Colin will be flattered to be mentioned in the same sentence as Michelangelo. No, there’s no room for error, especially because I think the blue paint he’s using is a very permanent pigment. He does like a bit of a challenge! 🙂 Thank you for your comments, which I’ll show him!

Such beautiful detail, so soft and touchable. I can almost feel the silky feathers.

Thank you – that’s what Colin is so good at – he loves creating that softness.

The insight to the creative process is intriguing for someone who doesn’t paint.

It is to me too, Scott, although I have seen Colin’s paintings in progress for many years now! Thanks for your comment.

Totally stunning, they fly along the ditch in our garden and that face is just perfect 🙂

Thank you, Lynne – you are so lucky to have them close by. They used to be a much more common sight, sadly.

absolutely fabulous! I would love to have half his patience. The colors and soft feathery bits are fantastic.
